Strengthening the visibility of the Mauritius International Financial Centre at the Africa CEO Forum

With a view to positioning Mauritius as a business and financial hub for Africa, the Economic Development Board of Mauritius participated as a country sponsor in the 7th edition of the Africa CEO forum, which was held at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda on the 25th and 26th of March 2019.

The prestigious event witnessed the presence of some 1,500 C-level attendees, surging from pan-African companies, MNCs, family offices, financiers, banks and advisors and was also graced by senior government dignitaries from Africa.

The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance of the Republic of Mauritius, Hon. Dharmendar Sesungkur, led a delegation comprising key representatives of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius, namely Mr. François Guibert, CEO of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius, Mr. Faraz Rojid, Head of Financial Services and Mr. Vinay Guddye, Head, Logistics – Air & Sea and Africa Strategic Business Unit. The Economic Counsellors representing the African Market and the co-sponsors from the Mauritian private sector, namely the MCB group, Ocorian group and SANNE, also formed part of the delegation.

EDB participated in the Africa CEO forum in several capacities namely:

  • To highlight the opportunities and advantages of Mauritius as an International Financial Centre, through a dedicated plenary session;
  • A Public-Private Deal Session aimed at showcasing the different Special Economic Zones currently under development by the Government of Mauritius through a G-to-G collaboration with selected African countries; and
  • To conduct targeted B-to-B meetings with potential investors

The EDB also seized the opportunity to increase the visibility of Mauritius as an investment and trade destination through an interview on CNBC Africa. In this  context, a 30-minute country focused interview was conducted with the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance and the CEO of the EDB. The CNBC interview served an excellent platform to further reinforce the image of Mauritius as a strategic business hub and to promote the successful economic diversification strategy of the country.
