In line with its strategy to promote Mauritius as a preferred sourcing destination, the Economic Development Board will participate for the first time in Bar Convent Berlin which will be held from 7th to 9th October 2019 with a view to further explore new and emerging markets for premium wine & spirits.

Bar Convent Berlin is one of the leading international trade fairs for the bar and beverage industry. The 3-day event which will be hosted  at the Station Berlin & Kühlhaus Berlin will see the participation of 15,000 international buyers from 79 countries and feature over 433 exhibitors. Bar Convent Berlin is as a specialist trade fair for the industry's professionals such as manufacturers of spirits, sparkling wines, beers and mixers, bartenders, bar owners and distributors.  This event will gather importers, producers, and wholesalers, leading bar operators and opinion leaders in this field to come together under one roof.  The event will serve as an ideal platform geared towards reaching precisely the right target groups.

With the evolving dynamics of the European market and the rise in premiumisation, there is huge prospect for Mauritian spirits. It should be noted that within the drinks industry, Rum is seen as the most versatile spirit. Mauritian rum is evolving in status, from a spirit found in vacation cocktails to one that is increasingly praised for its diverse flavors and uses. With a rich history of more than 40 years of industrialization, Mauritius has positioned itself as a sourcing destination of choice for quality and premium spirits. Today, Mauritius is one of the few countries  produces both Agricultural Rums (a rum distilled from the juice of fresh-cut sugar cane) & Traditional Rums (molasses-based rums). With such a rich seam of history heritage to draw on, Mauritian spirits are well place to capitalize on this trend, offering a broad range of styles and flavours.

In this context, the Economic Development Board will leverage on its participation in the Bar Convent Berlin to tap into new opportunities, develop new markets, keep abreast with the latest and evolving trends in the sector as well as connect with major players of the industry.
