Mauritius & Kwazulu-Natal to harness investment & trade opportunities

In context of the official visit of a 15-member strong delegation from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the MCCI in collaboration with the EDB, the South African High Commission & the Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal hosted a seminar on 18th November 2019 at the Hennessey Park Hotel, Ebene.

The event themed “Building Linkages to improve Intra-Africa Trade” served as an excellent platform to identify trade & business opportunities with a view of further consolidating the business ties between both countries.   

The event also saw high-level engagements and networking opportunities between the Mauritian and South African business communities with the aim of translating the prospects into tangible initiatives.

Delivering the welcome speech during the opening session, Mr. François Guibert, CEO of EDB has reiterated the importance of strengthening collaboration and exchange within the region with a view to develop a robust manufacturing sector in the sub-Saharan African region and the SADC.  Moreover, Mr. Guibert called for more concerted efforts and exchanges for sustaining the development and buoyancy of Africa.

It should be highlighted that South Africa remains the most important export market for Mauritian apparel products and exports to South Africa has increased from MUR 6.2 billion in 2016 to MUR 7.5 billion in 2018.

In line with the Economic Diplomacy initiatives of the Government of Mauritius, the EDB office in South Africa is working in close collaboration with the relevant authorities to further promote higher levels of trade and investment between South Africa and Mauritius.
