Enhancing the visibility of Mauritius as a manufacturing base Texworld International Apparel Fair, 19 – 21 January 2020, USA
In line with its objective to enhance the visibility of Mauritius as an attractive manufacturing base and to further penetrate the Nothern American market, the Economic Development Board will lead a delegation of 10 Textile and Apparel companies in the next edition of Texworld USA, a world-renowned fabrics and apparel sourcing event which will be held from 19th to 21st January 2020 at the Javits Convention Centre in New York, USA.
Since its inception, Texworld USA has grown into one of the leading international business fair in North America for apparel fabric buyers, product R&D specialists, designers, sourcing specialists which offers a wide product range covering the entire fabric spectrum. The three day trade fair is expected to attract around 4,200 international visitors from 54 countries including 225 international exhibitors.
Mr. Geerish Bucktowonsing, Head- Traditional Manufacturing at EDB underlines that the current USA - China trade war augurs an opportunity for Mauritian apparel manufacturers. Mauritius should leverage on its duty-free access to USA under the AGOA whilst most of the import of apparel from China to USA is now subject to duties between 31 to 46%.
The rise in purchasing power in the US has largely resulted in a growing demand for apparel and garments. In this perspective, the US remains a key market with lucrative prospects that has not been fully tapped by our local manufacturers. Accordingly, this event will provide an opportunity for textile and apparel manufacturers to meet with new buyers who have expressed their interests to see alternative sourcing from China which focus more on small orders, quick delivery and high value addition.
