Speaking at the launch of Emtel\u2019s cloud services, the Minister reaffirmed Government\u2019s commitment to enabling businesses and citizens to fully benefit from artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and emerging digital technologies.<\/p><p>Key Regulatory Measures are highlighted below:<\/p><ul><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Introducing an e-commerce framework to register and license online sellers with verified operators.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Amending the Electronic Transactions Act to incorporate blockchain-enabled Electronic Transferable Records for international trade.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Updating data protection laws to align with the EU&#8217;s GDPR, including regulations on data protection officers and e-privacy.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Revising the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act with provisions for IT security audits, a National Cyber Resiliency Agency, and identity management services.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Changing the ICT Act to ensure freedom of expression while regulating the use of new technologies like Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit broadband.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Setting social media moderation guidelines.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Developing a National AI Strategy with an AI Unit, ethical AI policies, and widespread AI integration in public services.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Digitalizing public services via a unified government portal and mobile ID for seamless access.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Supporting innovation with SME programmes and sandboxes for digital solutions.<\/li><\/ul><p>These measures aim to make Mauritius a digitally advanced, secure, and innovative country aligned with its broader vision for a sustainable and inclusive digital future.<\/p><p>By streamlining e-commerce through the registration and licensing of online sellers, these regulations build trust among consumers and businesses alike, significantly expanding digital trade opportunities.
