South Africa has emerged as a premier export destination for the Textile and Apparel sector of Mauritius, after USA, UK and France. In 2019, Mauritius exported a wide variety of textile and apparel products including yarn and knitted fabric, Denim, Shirt, T-shirt, Textile, Pullovers and Cardigans to the tune of MUR 5.68 billion.

Over the last decade, Mauritian manufacturers have established a solid partnership with renowned South African retailers namely, Woolworth, The Foschini Group, Edgar, Adidas among others. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, South African Buyers have retained the loyalty towards Mauritian products, but the orders are now in smaller quantities. The good quality of products made with care and excellence in customer services has propelled a new dimension to the bilateral trade relations shared between Mauritius-South Africa. Mauritius is also offering opportunities of investment to further develop the concept of ‘Made in Africa’ through regional value chain integration.

Twenty-five local textile and apparel manufacturers have expressed interest to participate in the first virtual edition of Source Africa to strengthen relationship and propose new collection for the coming years.

The event will see the participation of key African and international decision makers, Buyers, Chains stores, Independent retailers, Mini-chains, Corporate clothing buyers, Designers, Private labels, Procurement Directors, among others.
