This outcome followed an Economic Development Board (EDB)-led mission bringing together 11 Mauritian textile and apparel manufacturers to one of the United Kingdom’s leading apparel sourcing exhibitions, held from 7 to 9 July 2026 at ExCeL London.
The United Kingdom remains Mauritius’ second-largest export market for apparel, reflecting a long-standing trade relationship built over decades.
At this year’s exhibition, Mauritian manufacturers showcased their latest collections and a diverse portfolio of products, including knitwear, premium cashmere, denim, luxury shirting, children’s wear and tailoring. The Mauritian pavilion highlighted the industry’s strengths in sustainability, innovation and value-added manufacturing, with collections emphasising comfort, durability and made-to-measure solutions.
The Pavilion was inaugurated by H.E. Dr Rajeshwar Jeetah, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to the United Kingdom, who reaffirmed the High Commission’s commitment to supporting Mauritian exporters by facilitating business connections and strengthening commercial ties with the UK market.
Throughout the three-day event, exhibitors engaged with buyers, retailers, sourcing offices and fashion brands, including established international names such as Cordings, Neal & Palmer, Buckleigh of London, The Oxford Shirt Company and Perry Ellis, among others. These engagements provided opportunities to develop new commercial partnerships, strengthen existing client relationships and reinforce Mauritius’ position as a trusted sourcing destination for high-quality, ethically produced apparel.
The exhibition also provided valuable insights into evolving market trends.
Sustainability remained a key purchasing criterion. According to one buyer, consumers are increasingly favouring garments produced in smaller quantities, with greater emphasis on comfort, durability and longevity rather than fast-fashion consumption.
It is precisely in this niche that Mauritius is well positioned to respond to evolving market demand, with international buyers valuing the country’s ability to deliver high-quality, value-added products with the flexibility, reliability and shorter production runs increasingly sought by premium brands.
Buyers indicated continued interest in premium apparel, particularly luxury knitwear, including cashmere sweaters, cardigans and other high-end knitted garments, as well as formal suits and premium shirts.
Discussions also highlighted growing demand for bespoke and made-to-measure clothing, reflecting a wider shift towards quality, craftsmanship and product differentiation.
