CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex Hosts Seminar on Mauritius as a Business Hub

On August 9, the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in India hosted an interactive seminar titled “Business Opportunities in and through Mauritius,” jointly organized by Elektrotec 2024 and the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA). M. KarthiKeyan, President of CODISSIA, highlighted the significance of exploring Mauritius’s business potential in his introductory remarks.

The seminar featured distinguished officials from Mauritius, including the Honourable Soomilduth Bholah, Minister of Financial Services & Good Governance; Hemraj Ramnial CSK, Chairman of the Economic Development Board (EDB); and Vinay Guddye, Director of Financial Services at the EDB. Minister Soomilduth Bholah provided an update on Mauritius’s decade-long growth and development, underscoring the country’s favorable business environment and investment opportunities.

Mr Hemraj Ramnial, Chairman of the EDB, advocated for CODISSIA to consider Mauritius as the location for the next Elektrotec event. He emphasized Mauritius’s numerous trade agreements and urged MSME entrepreneurs in Coimbatore to explore investment opportunities in the nation. Ramnial also noted that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between India and Mauritius covers 600 products and highlighted Mauritius’s warehouse regulations, freight refunds, and trade policies designed to attract manufacturing investments and offer a gateway to the African market.

Mr Vinay Guddye, , Director of Financial Services at the EDB encouraged participants to investigate Mauritius’s streamlined legal services system by giving an overview of the country’s joint venture initiatives, tax advantages, and investment prospects.

The seminar was attended by office bearers, former presidents, senior members, and executive committee members of CODISSIA, with approximately fifty participants in total. The key points of the discussions were summarized by P. Ponram, Chairman of Elektrotec 2024, and M. Yuvaraj, Secretary of CODISSIA.

M. KarthiKeyan, P. Ponram, and M. Yuvaraj indicated that further discussions on economic opportunities between India and Mauritius will take place in the coming months, with a delegation from India scheduled to visit Mauritius soon.
