Mauritius Expo Virtual Platform aims to aid local Businesses with Visibility and Trade Opportunities

Local entrepreneurs in Mauritius are now equipped with an innovative online portal that allows them to showcase their products to a global audience round the clock. The Mauritius Expo Virtual Platform, powered by the Economic Development Board (EDB), was officially launched on July 27, 2023, at the Caudan Arts Centre in Port-Louis by the Honorable Renganaden Padayachy, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Development. This groundbreaking platform opens up new avenues for Mauritian companies to reveal and promote their products to a wider market, thus bolstering the nation’s position as a reliable sourcing destination.

With the global market now at their fingertips, local businesses can expand their horizons without the need for physical travel, making the virtual platform a crucial instrument for growth. “The more we are visible, the more people will discover the products we have. Mauritius is far away, and this virtual platform offers access to a significant market. In the face of strong international competition, our industry must continue to evolve, expand, and demonstrate resilience,” emphasized Mr. Geerish Bucktowonsing, the Director of Industry at the EDB.

During the launching ceremony, the Finance Minister, Honorable Renganaden Padayachy recalled that this project was introduced in the 2021-2022 budget as a measure to bolster the Made in Moris label. “The government is steadfast in its commitment to fostering a dynamic and resilient business environment that will drive economic growth and create employment opportunities for Mauritians”, said the minister. He further added: “The manufacturing sector, as a whole, is the primary contributor to our GDP, and we are determined to rejuvenate and enhance this sector. The utilization of innovative tools will not only boost sales but also upgrade the overall performance of companies and our economy. Through the EDB, we are enabling local entrepreneurs and exporters to showcase their products to more than 5 billion people worldwide.”

Already, 150 companies from diverse sectors have registered on the platform, indicating the enthusiasm and interest it has garnered among the local business community.
