On 10th June 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Board (EDB), Mr. Mahen Kundasamy, had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Tomáš Uličný, Ambassador of the Czech Republic, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Mauritius, Mr. Gulshan Jugroo.
The discussion covered various potential avenues for enhanced collaboration between Mauritius and the Czech Republic, with a strong emphasis on forging mutually beneficial economic ties. Both parties explored opportunities in key sectors such as education, tourism, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. The Czech Republic is strong in industrial innovation and precision engineering, while Mauritius is strategically positioned to serve as a regional hub.

His Excellency Tomáš Uličný commended Mauritius for its stable and resilient investment climate, underpinned by consistent economic governance, a robust financial system, and an efficient banking sector. He highlighted Mauritius’s strong reputation as a trustworthy and reliable jurisdiction, noting that this financial stability provides a solid foundation for strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and encouraging Czech investors to explore opportunities in Mauritius.
Mr. Kundasamy reiterated the strategic imperative for Mauritius to strengthen its presence across Africa. He emphasised that Africa represents a vast frontier of untapped opportunities, with a rapidly growing population, rising consumer demand, and increasing investments in infrastructure, digital technology, and sustainable industries. With its preferential access to African markets through trade agreements such as the AfCFTA and COMESA, Mauritius offers Czech investors a secure and well-connected platform for expansion. He invited Czech businesses to form strategic partnerships, invest in joint ventures, and tap into regional value chains via Mauritius.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Kundasamy reaffirmed Mauritius’ commitment to building a forward-looking partnership with the Czech Republic. He emphasised that the EDB will facilitate business linkages, provide investor support, and ensure a seamless experience for Czech enterprises wishing to establish or expand their footprint in Mauritius and beyond.
