As part of its export promotion strategy for the Healthcare sector, the Economic Development Board (EDB) conducted an export of services promotion mission in Nairobi, Kenya from 21st to 24th November 2023. The delegation, led by the director of the Bio Industry and Project development cluster, Mrs Nirmala Jeetah, comprised representatives of healthcare institutions, CROs, medical tourism and medical equipment service providers.
The business forum held on the 21st provided the platform for the EDB and the participating companies to showcase the healthcare and life sciences industry in Mauritius. A series of B2B meetings and site visits enabled the delegates to explore avenues of collaboration with Kenyan counterparts. The collaboration established between operators of both countries will contribute to bolster economic ties between both countries.
The delegation had the opportunity to visit flagship institutions such as the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), MP Shah Hospital, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Kenya Investment Authority, Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Dawa Lifesciences pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, amongst others.
The first export of services promotion mission for the healthcare and life sciences sector has indeed contributed to further increasing the visibility of Mauritius as a healthcare and clinical research destination. This heightened visibility will eventually translate into increased opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, investment and partnership. Our healthcare industry is thus poised for significant growth in attracting investment, sharing best practices, advancing research, and undertaking projects of mutual benefit to each nation.
