The Economic Development Board (EDB) was honoured with a Gold Award at the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award (NPQEA) 2024 held on Friday 17th May 2024. This award, organized by the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC), is a recognition towards organisational excellence, best practises, and processes. The Hon. Mrs. Naveena Ramyead, Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs, and Cooperatives, present for the event, highlighted that ‘The Government Programme 2020-2024 envisions Mauritius to be in the league of high-income countries, driven by technology and innovation to achieve greater prosperity and that it is gratifying to note that the Global Innovation Index 2023, has ranked Mauritius 1st among 28 economies in the Sub-Saharan Africa’.
The EDB presented the Virtual Exhibition Platform – Mauritius Expo project for the NPQEA under the category ‘Government Departments, Parastatals Bodies & Registered Associations’ and competed with 27 renowned organizations such as the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), Mauritius Housing Company (MHC), Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency (MARENA), National Library, Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) and the University of Mauritius.
Mauritius Expo, launched in July 2023 and accessible on mauritiusexpo.com, is an innovative and permanent platform that has been created with the goal of helping exporting companies to increase their global visibility and reach new markets by connecting to an ever-growing database of potential buyers and distributors 24/7.
Leveraging on advanced digital technologies, the platform offers businesses a sustainable and innovative solution to reach international markets. This initiative aligns with Mauritius’s broader economic strategy to diversify its market reach and enhance its global economic footprint. It also highlights the EDB’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and serves as a strong lever for Mauritian enterprises looking to activate their digital transformation for export-led growth.
This Gold Award recognizing their outstanding contributions and achievements, the EDB along with the National Library and the Mauritius Prison Services were the nominees for the highest recognition in the ‘Government Departments, Parastatals Bodies & Registered Associations’ category. The jury finally bestowed the Grand Winner title to Mauritius Prison Services for their efforts to develop self-sufficiency in food production by detainees.
