Mauritius-China Summit Reinforces Collaborative Opportunities in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sectors

The China Medical Pharmaceutical Material Association (CMPMA) in collaboration with the the Economic Development Board and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mauritius organised the “Mauritius-China Medical and Healthcare Industry Development Summit” on 3rd September 2004 at InterContinental Resort in Balaclava. EDB highlighted priority sectors earmaked for further development to the Chinese business participants with focus on the Healthcare and Life Sciences, Financial Services, Freeport & Logistics and the Real Estate sectors.

The Chairman of EDB, Mr Ramnial, CSK, highlighted the strong bond of friendship between Mauritius and the People’s Republic of China and invited the members of CMPMA to explore high value added niche opportunities in the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences value chain, including pharmaceutical research, drug discovery and drugs production for export to Africa.

The Summit provided a platform for the 100 Chinese C-level Executives from the medical and pharmaceutical sectors to interact with the local private sector representatives involved in areas such as pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturing, medical clinics, biotech, banking, freeport and logistics.

The China Medical Pharmaceutical Material Association is a non-profit group whose prime objective is to promote China’s pharmaceutical materials industry. It comprises some 6000 members across China and brings together various players- from medicinal plant cultivation and production to distribution, from traditional Chinese to cutting-edge health technology. They are not only involved in pharmaceuticals, retail chains and medical equipment, but also in medical AI research.

Mauritius was the first stop of the CMPMA’s African Tour.
