The SheTrades Mauritius Hub, operating under the Economic Development Board (EDB), hosted a workshop on new budgetary measures for women-led businesses on Thursday, 3rd October 2024. The objective of this event was to increase awareness about recent budgetary measures and their potential impact on women-led businesses. Key representatives from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) participated in the workshop, providing insights into tax reforms, incentives, and other financial measures designed to benefit women-led businesses in Mauritius. The session provided a platform for entrepreneurs to understand and leverage these new provisions to strengthen their businesses and promote growth.

As such, the workshop provided an insightful update on the Finance Act, focusing on the new budgetary measures that women-led businesses can leverage in their entrepreneurial journey. During the program, entrepreneurs learnt about recent income tax measures, social security contributions, the Prime à l’Emploi initiative, tax deductions, and other relevant provisions aimed at assisting them in their businesses. This event aligns with the SheTrades Mauritius Hub’s strategy of promoting gender parity and fostering greater inclusion of women in trade, empowering them with the necessary tools to succeed and grow in the business environment
In her welcome address, Mrs Nirmala Jeetah, Director of the Bio Industry, Project Development and ITC SheTrades Hub emphasized the critical role the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) plays in fostering an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs through the implementation of fiscal policies that encourage business growth. She also reaffirmed the Hub’s commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs in building successful and sustainable businesses.

As part of this endeavor, Mrs. Jeetah introduced the new SheTrades Mauritius Hub website, which carries the tagline “She Goes Global“. This website would serve as a valuable platform for connecting and sharing information with women entrepreneurs, the global SheTrades Hub network, and the International Trade Centre. It is designed to enhance the global visibility of SheTrades Mauritius members and their products and services. The interactive platform would allow potential customers to learn about the businesses of SheTrades members, make inquiries, and connect with them directly, contributing to the growth and outreach of women-led businesses.

The website can be accessed on https://shetrades.edbmauritius.org/

Three high-level officers from the Mauritius Revenue Authority Mrs Pratima Puholoo, Mrs Nanda Jahajeeah and Mr Rama Santaram made insightful presentations and shed light on important new measures such as the Corporate Climate Responsibility, incentives for small enterprises, income tax exemptions for SMEs, penalties for late submission of returns, and updates to the Corporate Social Responsibility framework. It was a highly interactive session, with representatives from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) addressing queries from participants and clarifying these key changes.

Women entrepreneurs are encouraged to take advantage of such enriching workshops, using the platform not only to gain knowledge but also to network with like-minded women in business.
