Following a proposal from the Economic Development Board, the World Alliance of International Financial Centres (WAIFC) has chosen Mauritius as the host country for their Extraordinary General Meeting. The delegation consisting of the Board Members of WAIFC has arrived in Mauritius to participate in the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled from the 27th to 29th March 2024 at the Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa in Balaclava.
The WAIFC is a global association of major financial centres spanning across five continents, with current members including the City UK, Dubai International Financial Centre, Paris Europlace, Frankfurt Main Finance, Luxembourg for Finance, and Jersey Finance, among others.
The WAIF EGM & Board Meeting being conducted in Mauritius include representatives from FinCity, Tokyo, Casablanca Finance City Authority, Luxembourg for Finance, Busan Finance Centre, EnterpriseNGR, Rwanda Finance, TheCityUK and Two Rivers International Finance & Innovation.
Founded in Brussels in 2018, the WAIFC welcomed the Economic Development Board (EDB) representing the Mauritius International Financial Centre as an official member in 2019.
As a diverse association incorporating a variety of financial centres, both established and emerging, the WAIFC serves as a prominent advocate for the role and promotion of International Financial Centres (IFCs) worldwide. The association has been instrumental in showcasing the capabilities and opportunities of the Mauritius jurisdiction on a global scale through its extensive network.
During their visit, it is customary for the Board Directors to engage with senior Government officials, policymakers, and key stakeholders of the host country to address comprehensive matters related to the global financial system.
Today, an important milestone will be reached with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the Africa Roundtable. The signing ceremony will be honoured by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, along with the Honourable Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance.
