Zambia Development Agency’s Benchmarking Study Tour to Mauritius
The Economic Development Board Mauritius hosted a four-member delegation from its counterpart, the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), who proceeded on an official visit to Mauritius from 6th May 2024 to 11th May 2024.
The objective of this visit was to undertake a Best Practice Benchmarking Study on Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) and on the setting up of industrial parks & Special Economic Zones.
In line with its objective of strengthening collaboration and partnerships among African IPAs, and promoting a coordinated approach to investment promotion, the Economic Development Board Mauritius welcomed the delegation and facilitated a series of meetings with key stakeholders for the Zambian delegation.
The delegation comprised Mr. Phiri Jonathan, Board Member, Mr. Melu Innocent, Director, Corporate Strategy, Mr. Sifafula Mutukwa Collins, Assistant Director – Policy and Research, Ms. Banda Kawama Tatenda, Policy & Research Specialist.
The benchmarking tour provided the opportunity to learn about the legislative, regulatory, and institutional frameworks governing IPAs and Industrial Parks, learn about labour matters related to immigration and work permits, investment regime, land rates in Mauritius, investment facilitation and one stop shop model.
During the welcome meeting, the Deputy CEO of EDB, Mr. Sachin Mohabeer provided a comprehensive overview of Mauritius, industrial parks as well as investment promotion, facilitation and tracking services.
The Economic Development Board also organized a meeting and site visit at the Moka Smart City. Mr. Yanick Bax De Keating, Business Development Coordinator at ENL Property Ltd showcased a full-fledged presentation on the MOKA Smart City masterplan, its implementation as well as several upcoming projects in the pipeline for commercialization. The delegation also visited the development sites.
The delegation also met with Landscope Mauritius as the institution is mandated to develop and manage business and industrial parks. During the meeting, Mr. Sandee Teeroovengadum, Head of Marketing and Communications of Landscope elaborated on the diversified portfolio of prime property assets in Mauritius, spanning across the office, retail and industrial sectors. He also stressed on the importance of futureproofing while designing masterplans for new cities, and projects which allows to anticipate and prepare for future challenges, trends, and disruptions, and ensure long-term success of projects.
The Benchmarking tour was concluded with two site visits namely, at BPML Freeport Services Ltd and the Mauritius Freeport Development Co Ltd.
