In the context of Les Assises de L’Agriculture, The Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security, in collaboration with the Economic Development Board Mauritius, is organizing a two-day symposium on 16th & 17th March 2023 on the theme “Pathways to a sustainable food system for a healthier tomorrow”. Government aims at achieving self-sufficiency for a number of agricultural products and sharpen the export potential of quality and diversified agro-processed products. Recent international shocks have exacerbated the need for Mauritius to review its agricultural production strategy. Mauritius produces less than 25 percent of its food products and it must urgently find solutions to address food security issues.
The objective of this symposium is to provide a platform for participants to explore issues, exchange views, and enhance their understanding on key themes identified by formulating short- and medium-term actions that would support initiatives to improve food security and reduce imports of food products. The Conference will lay critical groundwork on how agriculture and food systems can be better aligned to support outcomes around human health, environmental health, and economic vitality.
