Food Packaging & Labelling Training for Rodriguan Food Enterprises

EDB Mauritius, in collaboration with SME Mauritius Ltd, organised and delivered the Food Packaging & Labelling Training for Rodriguan Food Enterprises from 1 to 5 June 2026. The three-day programme was held at SME Mauritius Ltd, Malabar, Rodrigues, and brought together over 20 selected food producers representing a cross-section of the island’s food sector.

The training covered food packaging science and material selection, the full mandatory labelling requirements under the Food Regulations 2024 and the Legal Metrology (Pre-Packed Commodities) Regulations 2006, packaging design principles and digital design tools, and labelling requirements for selected export markets. A specialist session on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) was delivered by Expertise France. SME Mauritius Ltd presented the financial support schemes available to producers for packaging and labelling improvements.

Participants were provided with a suite of practical tools: a packaging diagnostic framework, a label compliance audit checklist aligned with the Food Regulations 2024, and a pre- and post-training self-assessment to measure knowledge progression across the programme.

On the final day of training, participants presented an improved packaging and labelling concept and committed to a specific improvement action to be implemented within 30 days.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by EDB Mauritius and SME Mauritius Ltd to strengthen the competitiveness and regulatory readiness of Rodriguan food enterprises in domestic and international markets.
